Jill Turner

Jill Turner currently lives with her youngest child and a slightly scatty cat in the north of wet and windy Essex in the UK. She started to read at an early age and never stopped! She loves the escape from reality that she finds in between the pages. She’s been creating stories in her head for more years than she cares to think about so she decided that it would be a good idea to write some of them down. Jill made a start with the first book in the series, The Seelie Princess, and it grew into a trilogy. To her utter amazement it reached bestseller status on Amazon, Kindle Free Fairy Tales and this fact was all the encouragement she needed to continue. She hopes all children (and their parents) enjoy the stories.

Jill studied for a B.Ed and was once a paralegal. She has worked in Early Years education for many years and currently delivers NVQ’s for those who want to do the same.

She would have loved to meet Sir Terry Pratchett during his lifetime to thank him for giving the world his Discworld series of books – if she believed she had one ounce of his talent, she would be a very happy lady!

A trip to the traveling carnival with two toddlers and a mobility-challenged parent isn’t most people’s definition of fun, but it’s closer than Valerie Wade usually gets. A few hours kicking sawdust and revisiting favorite childhood memories, that’s all she asks.

It’s her annual treat, a visit back in time to the carefree years before she learned that her blood carries a potential death sentence, before life beat her down and broke her spirit. It’s the one place where she can forget about secrets, debts and obligations for a few hours and remember what hope feels like.

Everything changes that night, under the bright lights and the striped awnings. The monsters and freaks aren’t in the sideshow tents. They’re walking the aisles, and before the carnival is done, Valerie will be taking her place among them.

About The Author:

I love stories that dance in the open spaces between genres, so those are what I write. Professional development has included classroom teaching, animal training, aquaculture, horticulture, retail operations, and customer service. Personal development is ongoing. Cats, baking, and flowers are involved.

My books play in the literary traffic, dodging between science and fantasy, present and future, to reach a sweet spot where characters come alive. Damaged souls, triumphs of the spirit, divided loyalties, and dialogue loaded with witty humor are recurring themes. I know I’ve hit my storytelling target when reviews start with, “This isn’t my usual read, but I took a chance,” and end with “And now I’ve read the whole series. I loved it and told all my friends to try it too.”

That happens a lot.

Throughout history we have been here. We were born of the union between the Watchers and the Daughters of Men. Our human hearts pump the blood of Angels through our veins yet, we are neither human nor angel. We are the Alimentatori, descendants of the divine, and this is just the beginning…

In my two-hundred and sixty three years I have witnessed much, yet nothing could have prepared me for the devastating murder of my brother, Julian. While he lies in stasis awaiting The Release, his killer roams the Lazio region of Italy free to seek other victims. But, all is not right behind the veil of this ancient landscape. Its beauty hides a world of ancient secrets, hidden agendas, and political intrigues. In order to extract my vengeance, I must first play a dangerous game according to another’s rules. Playing by the rules has never been my forte; toppling a game-board or two would suit me just fine! Regardless of the dangers that lie ahead, Retribution will be mine.

My name is Jacen Trudeau of the House of Samsaveel and I’m about to open Pandora’s Box.

About the Author:

A lover of superheroes and all things fantasy it was only natural to find a home within the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre. Growing up, the major influences in S.J.’s life were Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, the quintessential Star Wars, Robert Aspirin (his Mything series), Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), and of course J.R.R. Tolkien.

As a wife, mother of three, and US Navy Veteran. I have spent a great deal of my life in service to others. In late 2008 I realized that the one thing in my life that had not been given its due, was the love of my youth – writing. With the kids grown and my military service in the past, I made a pact with my Muse. I would put writing at the forefront and he would guide me to my ultimate goal, publication.

For the first two years I tried. I dabbled in historical romance. I got a third of the way through a novel before it lost its luster. The struggle frustrated me. I stepped away from the desk and glared at the screen as if it were the problem and not me. And then I met a young woman who wrote in a genre I’d never considered. I picked up one of her Urban Fantasies and within a few pages knew it was something I would like to try my hand at. I immediately sat down and wrote a scene – for the first time ever – in first person. What was created had a life I’d never seen in my writing before. After a lifetime of practicing my art, I’d found a new way to move forward.

Unfortunately, the right angle at fantasy and a good story alluded me. Then one day, while sitting in a workshop where the speaker was talking about her vampire series, my mind wandered. Through a crack, somewhere in the creative, a scene unfolded. Two characters came to life and played out a scene on a rooftop. I wrote the first couple of lines on the napkin next to me. When I got home, I wrote the scene. To my amazement, it was pretty good. I loved the characters. I loved the banter. I loved how writing it made me feel. Finally after so much struggle, my Muse had done it. He’d finally broken down the barrier that had kept the ideas at bay and given me a story which needed to be told. I’d found my niche in a genre known as Dark Contemporary Fantasy and the rest is, as they say, literary history.

Hello, this is L.M. David. It’s been a while since this interview, and the ones that follow, were initially done. Of note, this was done with Trina in June, 2013 but never posted on my blog. Those who read prior author interview may recall each opened with a complaint about Preston, the main character of my book, Touched: The Hunter Legacy. Since I am still wrapping my head around getting back into this, these will be straightforward for a while. Be patient.

This interview is with Trina Lee, author of Darker, Alexa O’Brien Huntress.

Welcome Trina. Let’s get started:

Q.  Tell me about yourself.

A. I’m a Canadian author, a huge animal lover and believer in dreams coming true. I have a fiancé and a teen daughter who make my world complete.

Q. What is your book, entitled Darker, Alexa O’Brien Huntress about?

A. It’s about a powerful werewolf named Alexa who possesses a unique power due to her connection to a vampire. In this book Alexa is trying to find a way to stop a demon who is threatening to kill the wolves in her pack.

Q.  What is the character Alexa O’Brien like?

A. She’s feisty and takes no crap from anyone but she’s also emotional and thoughtful, wanting to do what is right.

Q.  You describe Lilah as a demon queen. What has made this character so angry toward Alexa and her pack of wolves?

A. Lilah is cursed. The only thing that will break her curse is something that Alexa has.

Q.  I see there are also vampires in this book. With the character Kale Sinclaire missing, does that mean there is a war between the vampires and werewolves?

A. No there is no animosity between vampires and werewolves in this series. For the most part they co-exist rather well.

Q.  Who is Arys Knight and what is he like?

A.  He is the vampire Alexa shares power with. He’s an arrogant vampire with the ability to get what he wants and make others enjoy giving it to him. He is the perfect mix of monster and man.

Q.  Shya is yet another individual in Darker with a grudge. What is this character about?

A.  Shya is a demon. He doesn’t really have any grudges, he just has plans that he won’t let anyone get in the way of.

Q. What inspired you to write Darker?

A.  I am enjoying writing this whole series. Each book is just as exciting as the last. It keeps me going.

Q.  This is the sixth book in the series in the Alexa O’Brien Huntress series. Which is your favorite to date and why?

A.  I don’t think I have a favorite. I love all of them.

Q.  Which do you find more fascinating to write about? Werewolves? Or Vampires? And why?

A.  I love them both. They are both featured quite prominently in the series considering Alexa is a wolf with power that comes from her link to a vampire. The vampire and the werewolf are easily my top two favorite supernatural creatures.

Q. In Darker, which character was the hardest for you to write?

A. Nobody really. The story is told in first person which keeps me linked closest to Alexa. It allows me to see the others through her eyes which makes it feel very natural for me.

Q. What was your favorite part when writing Darker?

A. Writing the scenes that will surprise readers is the best part.

Q.  Will there be another installment in the Alexa O’Brien series?

A. Yes there will be more books in the series. I’m not sure how many in total yet.

Q.  You self-published, as so many other authors within recent years have opted to do. Why did you prefer that over traditional publishing?

A. Actually I was traditionally published first and I still do have a traditional publisher for some erotic romance stories. I chose later to move the Alexa series from a traditional publisher and re-release it myself. It was the best business decision for me at the time and I’ve enjoyed it.

Q. What advice do you have for other writers who are just starting in the publishing world?

A. Never give up and don’t stop writing. It takes time to get your name out there but with hard work it does happen. Learn all that you can and if you self-publish, hire a good editor. It’s a must.

Q. Also, I visited your blog site. Does Dark Mountain Books (which I believe is a self-publishing group of writers which you are part of) still producing books? I noted you changed from it to Createspace for your later novels. If the question is too nosey, it’s okay if you don’t answer the question.

A. Dark Mountain Books is an independent imprint I started with fellow author Alanna Coca. I didn’t switch anything away from it. My Alexa books are still Dark Mountain releases. I only use CreateSpace to distribute print copies.

L.M. David: Well, that’s all the questions I have for you. Thanks for doing this interview and I wish you the best of luck with your writing projects.
