SPOTLIGHT: RARITY FROM THE HOLLOW BY ROBERT EGGLETON

Book blurb

Lacy Dawn’s father relives the Gulf War, her mother’s teeth are rotting out, and her best friend is murdered by the meanest daddy on Earth. Life in The Hollow isn’t great. But Lacy has one advantage — she’s been befriended by a semi-organic, semi-robot who works with her to cure her parents. He wants something in exchange, though. It’s up to her to save the Universe.

To prepare Lacy for her coming task, she is being schooled daily via direct downloads into her brain. Some of these courses tell her how to apply magic to resolve everyday problems much more pressing to her than a universe in big trouble, like those at home and at school. She doesn’t mind saving the universe, but her own family and friends come first.

Will Lacy Dawn’s predisposition, education, and magic be enough for her to save the Universe, Earth, and, most importantly, protect her own family?

Rarity from the Hollow is adult literary science fiction filled with tragedy, comedy and satire. It is a children’s story for adults, not for the prudish, faint of heart, or easily offended.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

robert-eggleton

Robert Eggleton has served as a children’s advocate in an impoverished state for over forty years. He is best known for his investigative reports about children’s programs, most of which were published by the West Virginia Supreme Court where he worked from 1982 through 1997, and which also included publication of models of serving disadvantaged and homeless children in the community instead of in large institutions, research into foster care drift involving children bouncing from one home to the next — never finding a permanent loving family, and statistical reports on the occurrence and correlates of child abuse and delinquency. Today, he is a recently retired children’s psychotherapist from the mental health center in Charleston, West Virginia, where he specialized in helping victims cope with and overcome physical and sexual abuse, and other mental health concerns. Rarity from the Hollow is his debut novel and its release followed publication of three short Lacy Dawn Adventures in magazines: Wingspan Quarterly, Beyond Centauri, and Atomjack Science Fiction. Author proceeds have been donated to a child abuse prevention program operated by Children’s Home Society of West Virginia.

Robert continues to write fiction with new adventures based on a protagonist that is a composite character of children that he met when delivering group therapy services. The overall theme of his stories remains victimization to empowerment.

About The Author:

Jill Turner

Jill Turner currently lives with her youngest child and a slightly scatty cat in the north of wet and windy Essex in the UK. She started to read at an early age and never stopped! She loves the escape from reality that she finds in between the pages. She’s been creating stories in her head for more years than she cares to think about so she decided that it would be a good idea to write some of them down. Jill made a start with the first book in the series, The Seelie Princess, and it grew into a trilogy. To her utter amazement it reached bestseller status on Amazon, Kindle Free Fairy Tales and this fact was all the encouragement she needed to continue. She hopes all children (and their parents) enjoy the stories.

Jill studied for a B.Ed and was once a paralegal. She has worked in Early Years education for many years and currently delivers NVQ’s for those who want to do the same.

She would have loved to meet Sir Terry Pratchett during his lifetime to thank him for giving the world his Discworld series of books – if she believed she had one ounce of his talent, she would be a very happy lady!

Lurking

Excerpt from Lurking Miscellany: A collection of short fiction:

“It’s you!” She stood up and backed away, pointing accusingly at Orchil. “You’re doing this to me! You’re using some form of… of… magic.” What else could explain it? A spell, a curse, an inexplicable phenomenon. Magic!

Orchil laughed. “You really that stupid? I thought you followed the great god, Science? Sit, girl, sit and let me tell you how the trick was done. And that’s a rare thing, a Shaman explaining their magic, so you better listen well!”
An environmental activist with the power to control the elements.

A xeno-anthropologist Gate Tech seeking to learn the secrets of an alien race.

A shape changing fey playing havoc in a nightclub.

**There are four additional books in the Forging Day series under contract, as well as a novella.

About the Author:

Meade

Noelle usually has several irons in the fire at any given time. She likes to spend her time reading, writing, crafting, running two online shops to sell her crafts, and gaming. Life took a turn for the quirky in 2000 when she had her daughter, who turned out to have autism.

As a child, her ambition was to be the first woman President of the United States. When she got older and learned more about politics, she recovered from that particular insanity.

Her teens were spent on historical romances, science fiction, fantasy, and writing angsty poetry. In middle school, she had her first introduction to tabletop gaming in the form of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. As she explained to her dad, with all seriousness, it gave her the chance–as a terminally shy person–to try on different personalities and experiment with being a stronger person.

From the time her daughter was born until mid-2014, Noelle worked out of her home providing IT support for a small local software company. She’s finally working in an office again as an administrator, and rather likes it. It’s nice to spend the day around adults who are mostly grown-ups.

SPOTLIGHT: THE GLASS APPLE SERIES BY ROBERT J. FRANKS

Robert J. Franks

For orphans Jason, Kylie and Anna, magic was not a word that featured largely in their lives. At least, not until their American grandfather took them in. A comical old man with a name to match. Ethelbert Gobswistle. A magical campervan called Edsel transports them up to Yorkshire, where, in a bungalow called Cookiecrumb, they meet Gobswistle’s friend, a black plastic Christmas Fairy called Etain. Rambunctious, authoritative, and opinionated, she brooks no nonsense from either the children or the old man. And gradually, the small group becomes a family. But an ancient mythical witch, The Medb, pursues the old man and his family. She seeks his source of magic, the Anguinum, a powerful crystal carved to resemble a green glass apple shaped bowl. As they flee from her wrath, they seek the help of the Gwyllion, ancient fairies, who tell them they need three magical books in order to stop the ancient witch. But the books are hidden in the past. . .

About The Author:

Robert J. Franks Photo

Robert Franks was born in Norfolk, England. His father was a dairy farmer, his mother a nurse and his sister a frequent sparring partner. Brought up in the middle of the Norfolk countryside, he grew up with JRR Tolkein, Anne Macaffrey and Alan Dean foster for company. Oh, and 12 dachshunds, a welsh collie, two Pekinese, a great Dane, two Bassett hounds, innumerable farm cats, a rabbit hutch of both rabbits and guinea pigs, a golden pheasant, some chickens and a rather cantankerous old goose.
He wrote from an early age, completing his first full length novel at the age of 15. It was never published, but certain characters never went away, and have resurfaced in his most recent books, The Glass Apple Series.
He worked as a shop manager for many years, and his writing was put, for the main part, to one side.
The first three chapters of The Glass Apple were finished way back in 1997, but again work took priority. In the winter of 2009, he was made redundant when his shop was closed. Since then he has returned to his first love, writing.
The first three books of the Glass Apple series (The Glass Apple; Spider’s Web; Song of the Shaman) are all already available in both paperback (via Amazon) and kindle form.
