SPOTLIGHT: RARITY FROM THE HOLLOW BY ROBERT EGGLETON

rarity-robert-eggleton

Book blurb

Lacy Dawn’s father relives the Gulf War, her mother’s teeth are rotting out, and her best friend is murdered by the meanest daddy on Earth. Life in The Hollow isn’t great. But Lacy has one advantage — she’s been befriended by a semi-organic, semi-robot who works with her to cure her parents. He wants something in exchange, though. It’s up to her to save the Universe.

To prepare Lacy for her coming task, she is being schooled daily via direct downloads into her brain. Some of these courses tell her how to apply magic to resolve everyday problems much more pressing to her than a universe in big trouble, like those at home and at school. She doesn’t mind saving the universe, but her own family and friends come first.

Will Lacy Dawn’s predisposition, education, and magic be enough for her to save the Universe, Earth, and, most importantly, protect her own family?

Rarity from the Hollow is adult literary science fiction filled with tragedy, comedy and satire. It is a children’s story for adults, not for the prudish, faint of heart, or easily offended.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

robert-eggleton

Robert Eggleton has served as a children’s advocate in an impoverished state for over forty years. He is best known for his investigative reports about children’s programs, most of which were published by the West Virginia Supreme Court where he worked from 1982 through 1997, and which also included publication of models of serving disadvantaged and homeless children in the community instead of in large institutions, research into foster care drift involving children bouncing from one home to the next — never finding a permanent loving family, and statistical reports on the occurrence and correlates of child abuse and delinquency. Today, he is a recently retired children’s psychotherapist from the mental health center in Charleston, West Virginia, where he specialized in helping victims cope with and overcome physical and sexual abuse, and other mental health concerns. Rarity from the Hollow is his debut novel and its release followed publication of three short Lacy Dawn Adventures in magazines: Wingspan Quarterly, Beyond Centauri, and Atomjack Science Fiction. Author proceeds have been donated to a child abuse prevention program operated by Children’s Home Society of West Virginia.

Robert continues to write fiction with new adventures based on a protagonist that is a composite character of children that he met when delivering group therapy services. The overall theme of his stories remains victimization to empowerment.

SEEKING A SANE SOCIETY: NOTHING IS THE SAME, BOOK TWO IN THE SEEKING SERIES BY AUTHOR ALBERT A. CORREIA

Seeking a Sane Society

*** The anticipated sequel of the #1 Amazon Best Seller “Seeking Safe Harbor: Suddenly Everything Changed (The Seeking Series Book 1)” by Albert A. Correia ***

The Arthur family was finally able to get a peaceful night’s sleep on beautiful Catalina Island… or so they thought. Confronted the next day by demands for “taxes,” they, and all the residents of Catalina, learn that a former state legislator – who is also a former state prison inmate – has installed himself as governor of California.

Catalina Island and the small Central California town of Tracy are among the few habitable areas still in existence, but every day is a new challenge and their residents learn that must fight to survive. Each area has to find its own unique way of combating an illegal government and its “militia” consisting of a cutthroat gang of hardened criminals.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Albert

I would never have guessed that feisty old Faustino would have his daughter-in-law arrested to keep her away from drugs. Nor would I have known that aging movie cowboy Wyatt Wyoming would ask Santa for a horse; and what problems that would create for St. Nick on Christmas Eve. Who could foretell that a Red Chinese sub would surface in front of a sailboat seeking a safe harbor, or that its skipper was a graduate of a California university? Certainly not me.

The characters determine what happens in my books, not me. I just record what they do and say. I sit down, turn on my computer, and the charactrers start acting out what is apparently quite normal for them. Frankly, it’s very enjoyable. You see, I could never dream up the crazy things they do and say, yet those things are normal to them. When you read the books I publish, you’ll see what I mean.

Following a successful career as a chamber of commerce executive in California, I retired to Costa Rica and began writing. Recently, Kamel Press, LLC, a young and innovative publishing company in the Unites States, contracted to publish some of my books. They published “Even in Eden,” an epic saga of intrigue in Costa Rica (which includes Faustino and his daughter-in-law, the beautiful but twisted Yessenia), and have contracted to publish several others. The boat seeking safe harbor is one of them. Wyatt Wyoming and many other colorful characters are part of a short story collection. A few of the stories are being published in small collections (see “Great New and Fun Holiday Stories”), and the full array of almost fifty fun (and somewhat different) stories will be published when time allows.

Meantime, I continue to write (or, more accurately, record the actions and words of wonderful characters) in Costa Rica, where a large community of gifted writers reside.

Excerpt from Before The New Moon Rises:

Panacea, the daughter of the God of Healing is one of the main characters in my novels, Moon of the Goddess and Before the New Moon Rises (just released December 9th). But even the gods cannot see everything. As her father listens to the rumors his patients bring, he realizes that his daughter is in danger.

After adding a hint of mint to the cough serum, Asclepius handed the small amphora to his assistant. “Remind the child’s mother to give just a sip with each handspans passing. A cup of water as well. And summon me immediately if the child coughs blood.”
The God of Healing ran his fingers over his temples. It had been a long day, and he needed some time to think, to sort out the news he had gleaned. As he had listened to patients this last week, he heard more than their symptoms. It seemed that hungry kings plotted war in too many corners of their land.
He heard footsteps on the stones of the courtyard. “I am sorry, Sir, but there is a woman at the gate to see you.”
“Is she in labor?” That was all that would draw him away from his whirling thoughts to see one more patient.
“No Sir, but she claims your daughter, Panacea, sent her.”
“Then do not keep her waiting.” He had not heard from this daughter in three turns of the moon. As far as he knew, she was with Echidna at the shrine above Corinth. When the woman entered, he was even more surprised. She was a peasant by the look of her dress, and she seemed uneasy. He indicated a stool for her to take and sat across from her. “You come from my daughter.”
The woman looked down at her hands. “She said I should come and ask you to teach me.”
The God of Healing also looked at her hands. Panacea tended to recognize the gift of healing though to him the callouses spoke of gardening. “Tell me how you came to cross my daughter’s path.”
As the woman poured out her story, Asclepius kept the surprise from showing on his face. His daughter had indeed travelled far from Corinth and faced unexpected dangers. He assured the woman that he would teach her, and that she and her family could remain at this shrine for the time being. When another assistant had taken her to arrange lodgings, only then did the silence he craved return. Trouble is brewing across our land, he thought. He looked north and west toward the city Panacea sought. Take care, Daughter!

To find out how this woman and Panacea crossed paths, the answer is in the first novel Moon of the Goddess published by Prizm Books.

About The Author:

Jill Turner

Jill Turner currently lives with her youngest child and a slightly scatty cat in the north of wet and windy Essex in the UK. She started to read at an early age and never stopped! She loves the escape from reality that she finds in between the pages. She’s been creating stories in her head for more years than she cares to think about so she decided that it would be a good idea to write some of them down. Jill made a start with the first book in the series, The Seelie Princess, and it grew into a trilogy. To her utter amazement it reached bestseller status on Amazon, Kindle Free Fairy Tales and this fact was all the encouragement she needed to continue. She hopes all children (and their parents) enjoy the stories.

Jill studied for a B.Ed and was once a paralegal. She has worked in Early Years education for many years and currently delivers NVQ’s for those who want to do the same.

She would have loved to meet Sir Terry Pratchett during his lifetime to thank him for giving the world his Discworld series of books – if she believed she had one ounce of his talent, she would be a very happy lady!

SPOTLIGHT: TAMING SHADOWS, REVELATIONS TRILOGY, BOOK ONE BY AUTHOR FIONA SKYE

Tamingshadows

Four years ago, crime beat reporter Riley O’Rourke changed the world. To be fair, it wasn’t entirely her fault.

Her mentor, a 3,000-year-old vampire, destroyed Tucson police headquarters during a fight with a sorcerer. Footage of the fight went viral on the internet, and the existence of Preternaturals—vampires, witches, and other were-animals like Riley—was revealed. Humans went a little crazy. The Cats—and Wolves—were out of the bag, and only an act of Congress stopped the chaos.

But not all the Preternaturals are happy with this new world order, however. The Queen of the Winter Faeries worries that exposing her hidden world will destroy it, and sends the nastiest storybook characters imaginable to kill Riley before she can out the Fair Folk, too.

The Summer Queen, Winter’s arch-rival, promises to protect Riley if she does her a teeny-weeny favor: break into Winter’s castle, sneak past creatures straight out of Riley’s nightmares, steal a magical mirror, and return it to Summer. All without Winter noticing.

Riley agrees to the favor—what choice does she have? But dealing with the Fae is always a double-edged sword, and the Summer Queen neglected to explain that if Riley successfully pulls off this heist, the entire world might end up on the edge of destruction.

The Sequel to Taming Shadows is Silver Shackles, also available through Amazon.com
